How can a train authority be issued?
Handed by the signaller at a locally controlled location
Dictated to the driver at a remotely controlled location
Never just transmitted.
Is a train authority required any time a train returns to the rear due to an obstruction?
Yes.
What are the two exceptions when returning to the rear (set back) where you do not require a Train Authority?
If you are within station limits
Within the Metrol Controlled Area (excluding the MURL)
When do you need a train authority to assist a disabled train?
If the relief train is departing a controlled location on either ABS or ATC (i.e out of the block section)
Or to provide a relief train to either side of a derailment or obstruction if required
How many Train Authorities must you carry?
15
Is a Train Authority authorisation to pass a Home Signal at Stop on the ABS safe working system?
No, you will either need a verbal or signallers caution order (points, fouling point, tramway square)
Exception: Intermediate home signals on the MURL which will be specified.
What must the driver do prior to departure with a Train Authority?
The driver must contact the train controller and read the entire contents of the train authority including:
TA number
Red serial number
Date
Time
Relevant contents & instructions
What must you do if you make a mistake on a TA?
You must cancel it with time, date and signature.
Start a fresh Train Authority.
Where must you stop your combined train after a rescue when entering a location controlled by a signal box?
100m from the outer most set of points
You must contact the controlling signaller to gain authority in to the station limits.
Where will a train protecting a wrong line movement under TA working be?
100m from the limit of the wrong line movement
How and when do you cancel a TA?
Once you have arrived complete to the location specified on the TA.
Write cancelled, time and date and sign across the face.
What must you do after arriving under a TA to a locally controlled location?
Hand the TA to the signaller who will cancel it
The signaller will inform TC that the set has arrived complete and what time it was cancelled from.
What must do you after arriving under TA to a remotely controlled location?
Confirm the train is complete, cancel the TA and notify the Train Controller what time the TA was cancelled.
What do you do with a train authority after it has been cancelled?
Submit with an incident report before end of shift.
