What are we testing when we do a service running brake test?
The serviceability of the train’s brake
How do you complete an EP/Rheo service test?
• Place brake/master controller to the minimum application position according to train type
• Observe equivalent braking effort using ammeter and brake cylinder gauges
• Move brake/master controller further into the braking zone
• Assess again for equivalent brake effort
• Return brake controller to Run and RELEASE position
When do you perform the service brake test?
• Changing ends and cutting in a new cab
•Relieving a train from another driver
• Following dividing or attaching
• Following a defect of, or alteration to, train braking equipment
• When transitioning from dry to wet rail
What do you do if the service brake test fails?
Train can be run on automatic air brake

How do you perform a running brake test?
• Select a location where test can be carried out safely and at a speed which will not bring train to a standstill during test
• With Brake pipe fully charged, place EP MCB to off
• Place brake controller handle to the MINIMUM REDUCTION position of the service zone
The rest is for yourself so you know the brake
