What is setting back?
Driving the train back in the direction from where it has come from.
Can you set back without another competent employee in the other end?
No
What is the maximum speed when passing over a level crossing while setting back?
The maximum speed is 15km/h when passing over the crossing with frequent use of the whistle.
What is propelling?
Driving a train from any other cab than the leading cab.
Example: Zig-zag movement or defective cab controls
What are the bell codes in a Comeng?
One Bell - Call Attention
Two Bells - Proceed
Three Bells - Set Back
Four Bells - Call the competent employee to the front
Series of bells - Emergency STOP
Bells must be repeated by the other competent employee.
Can this whistle be used instead of bell codes?
Yes, the whistle can be used with the same codes.
What can you use to communicate when setting back?
Siemens, Xtrap & HCMT - Cab to Cab (when electrically coupled)
Comeng - Bells
All - DTRS via Motor Car Number or Whistle Codes
When setting back in the loop what does the driver have to do when approaching intermediate home signals?
- Stop at every intermediate Home signal
- Ensure the number of the intermediate Home signal is included on the Train
Authority - Cut out/raise the leading trip
- Ensure that the speed of the train does not exceed 15 km/h.
What must you do when setting back in the loop once you have reached the home signal controlling the exit?
- Stop the train at the signal
- Advise the Area Controller that the train has arrived complete
- Cut in the leading trip valve before proceeding on the aspect of the signal.
What are the speeds when setting back?
Propelling: 15km/h
Setting back: Extreme Caution
