How do you carry out Rule 1 Section 3?

A
  1. Stop prior to the signal
  2. Check track ahead for occupation, obstruction or damage. (May proceed if occupied under MRS instruction or when assisting disabled train).
  3. Decide if it is safe to perform r1s3: assess braking ability, defective equipment, weather, visibility.
  4. Call 9610 3599 and give name, leading MCN, signal number and TDN. (If can’t call, write these down and call again later)
  5. Check signal again in case it has cleared
  6. Make PA announcement - “this train will move and then stop suddenly, so if you are standing please sit or hold onto the handrails.”
  7. Sound a long whistle
  8. Proceed at extreme caution until WHOLE train has passed next fixed signal…
    …9 unless that signal is at stop, then do the entire procedure again.
