Cab And Saloon Equipment Flashcards
What 2 position does the low pressure flag have
Raise- STOP flag display
Lowered - STOP flag not displayed
What is a Low pressure flag
Warning device with an audible and visual warning
Low pressure flag can give 3 warning, name them
-Pressure in the main res is below 500kPA
- EP brake is inoperative due to failure or isolation of the power supply Lock Out Magnet Valve
- Brake Valve Isolating Cock and Switch is closed
When will the LP flag not be visible (2 answers)
-Pressure in main reservoir is safe
-Electro- magnet valve is energised
How do you isolate LP flags
Turn EP MR isolate cock in panel near park brake
Name the 6 cocks in the picture below
From top:
Panto EP isolate
MA EP isolate
Trip Gear Isolate
BP Sensor Isolate ( maintenance)
Panto and MA Isolate (maintenance)
EP MR Isolate
What equipment is shown in the picture below
Low pressure flag ( LP flag)
What happens if the power supply to the EP brake system fails or the EP circuit breaker trips?
The magnet valve will be de- energised and exhaust air supply to LP flag to atmosphere.
It will produce and audible warning and cause the flag to rise vertically
It will alert the driver that the EP brake is no longer operational and the train must be controlled by the air brake
How do you isolate the LP flag?
Turn the EP MR isolating cock to the vertical position
This will no longer monitor main res pressure
What does the couple button do?
De-energises the self-centring device so the coupler can be aligned manually (used in curved sidings)
Where is the compressed air to control the Trip latching lever supplied from?
Control reservoir
What does the brake pipe test switch and bell button do?
When the switch is on any bell being pushed will instigate a brake pipe reduction with a distinctive blow of compressed air coming from the cab
What is the traction equipment reset used for?
To reset tripped overloads in the traction system when traction motors fails to power or the Rheostatic brake fails to operate
What are the 4 gauges in front of the driver from left to right?
- Brake cylinder gauge
- Duplex gauge- Red needle (main res), white needle (Brake pipe)
- Speedo
- Ammeter, indicates electrical current in the traction motors during power or rheo brake
When is the Control Governor Bypass used?
When Red EC cock is isolated it allows train to be operated with primary safety system isolated
How long should you press the saloon door control buttons?
Minimum of 2 seconds
What does the saftey system isolation light indicate?
Door loop system bypassed and allows power when flashing door closed light is operating
Where is the second light for the safety system isolation?
Next to the door loop bypass key switch in the A side van area of a motor car
When is the battery charger fault light lit?
When there is a fault for the battery backup for the PA system
When is the line switch light lit?
Fault with the power supply to the traction motors or line breaker case
What three things can an air conditioner fault light tell you?
Off- Air con works
Steady- One air con has failed in at least one carriage
Flashing- Two air con’s have failed in the one carriage
What does the Wheel slip light indicate?
If illuminated when stationary it indicates fault with wheel slip system on train
Light may be steady or flashing depending on Scenario
What does the park brake light indicate?
Park brake is applied on train
What does the “This Car” light indicate?
Indicates if the the other fault or status light applies to the car your in
What other thing could the Marker light switch be used for?
To reset the emergency maker lights timer and PA system
After how long will the emergency marker light flash to tell you it needs to be reset?
1 hour and 45 min
