Safety apparatus + Red/Yellow cocks Flashcards
What are the six primary safety apparatus that are isolated by the Red EC/Yellow TECHAV cocks?
Trip - missing or won’t reset
Emergency application valve - won’t reset
Control governor - won’t close
Hand and foot pilot valves - won’t reset
Anti-neutralisation device
VICERS activation valve - won’t reset
When should you use the Red EC cock to isolate equipment instead of the Yellow TECHAV cock?
Red used in the motor being driven from (leading motor unless rescue)
Yellow used in any other car
What are the secondary safety apparatus?
Foot operated pilot valve
Emergency pilot valve
Emergency control governor
Control governor (C.G) bypass button
In what timing pattern does the Control Governor bypass button flash?
Every 30 seconds for 10 seconds before activating
(Activates after 40 seconds)
What does the Red EC cock do once turned?
Two way - once turned redirects brake pipe air from primary safety apparatus to secondary safety apparatus
What should you do before turning the Red EC cock?
Ensure brake pipe is empty (put into emergency) to avoid your eardrums being exploded by the air release
What does the Control Governor do?
Stops you from powering if the brake pipe pressure gets down to 310-340kPa (ie. to prevent powering and braking at the same time)
opens at 310-340kPa
closes (allows powering again) at 400-430kPa
