What is a subconjunctival hemorrhage
A
Spontaneous rupture of small vessels between episclera and conjunctiva

What causes a subconjunctival hemorrhage?
A
- Minor trauma
- Vigorous coughing
- Lifting
- Sneezing
- Vomiting
*may be a sign to an underlying bleeding disorder

What are the signs of a subconjunctival hemorrhage
A
- Asymptomatic
- Prominent red eye or a dark maroon blood visible underneath conjunctiva
- Homogenous, sharply demarcated red area covering part of the sclera
- Pupils not affected

What is the treatment of a subconjunctival hemorrhage/
A
A lot of reassurance
1. Redness may continue to spread over 48 hrs
*will turn yellow and then disappear
*may take up to 10-14 days
2. Resolves without tx

What are the red flags of conjunctivitis
A
- Reduced visual acuity
- Ciliary flush
- Photophobia
- Severe FB sensation
- Corneal opacity
- Fixed pupil
