What is a chalazion
A
Granulomatous inflammation of meibomian glans or Zeis gland, may be the result of an internal hordeolum
*rarely skin cancer of the eyelid

What are the signs / diagnostic criteria of a chalazion
A
Hard, rounded, nontender / painless swelling on the eyelid, non-draining (pea-like, rubbery nodule)
1. Maybe redness and swelling of conjunctiva
2. Possibly visual disturbances due to pressure on cornea

What is the treatment of a chalazion
A
Regular warm compress, resolves on own (1 month)
*consider ophthalmology referral if worsening or no resolution

What is the prognosis of a chalazion
A
- Scarring
- Loss of eyelashes
- Prevention
