What is Keratoconjunctivitis sicca
A
Dry eye syndrome
*condition of tear film instability with associated ocular and visual complaints

What are some things that can cause Keratoconjunctivitis
A
- Aging
- Topical and systemic drugs
- Environmental factors
- Systemic auto immune disorders

What are the signs of dry eye syndrome
A
- Dry scratchy sensation
- Redness
- Burning
- FB sensation
- Excessive mucus secretion
- Persistent discomfort

What will be found on physical exam
A
- Mild
*no issues - Severe
*corneal injection
*loss of healthy conjunctival and corneal luster
*mucous strands

What is the treatment for dry eyes
A
- Liberal application of ocular lubricants
- Artificial tears or ointments TID or QID daily
- Restasis (cyclosporine)
- Xiidra (lifitegrast)
- Omega 3 fatty acids

In severe cases of dry eyes what can be done
A
Tear puncta can be plugged or cauterized to reduce lacrimal outflow
