Structure of the Nephron Flashcards
What is the function of the glomerulus?
Filters your blood.
What is the function of the Bowman’s capsule?
Assists in the filtration of blood and creates a urinary space where filtrate can enter the nephron.
What is the function of the proximal convolute tubule?
Reabsorbs water and solutes such as sodium.
What is the function of the loop of Henle?
Reabsorbs water and sodium chloride from filtrate.
What is the function of the distal convoluted tubule?
Plays a role in regulating extracellular fluid volume and electrolyte homeostasis.
What is the function of the common collecting duct?
WIll funnel urine from the kidney through the ureter to the bladder.
What is the afferent arteriole?
Carries blood toward or in the glomerulus.
What is the efferent arteriole?
Carries blood away or out of the glomerulus.
