Bioinformatics Flashcards
1
Q
What is bioinformatics?
A
Is the use of computers to collect, store and analyse biological data such as DNA and amino acid sequences to describe the molecular components of living things.
2
Q
What are annotations?
A
Is the computerised process that identifies the location of genes and all coding regions of a genome.
3
Q
How has bioinformatics helped with tracing the evolution of organisms?
A
By measuring changes in their DNA, rather than through traditional techniques of physical taxonomy or physiological adaptations. The more similar the genes of two species, the closer their evolutionary relationship.
