what is social action theory
way of viewing socialisation, emphasising the active roles people have in shaping society
- accepts sport is developed at a particular time through the relationships and social networks of people who share similar views
interactionist approach
study of how individuals behave within society; theoretical process which stems from social processes
the way people people communicate and interact are emphasised
- society is created and maintained through social interaction
- sports are studied in terms of how they are created and given meaning by people
interactionist approach in sport
mainly concerned with peoples experiences with sport and how they interact with each other in social groups
- helpful to understand how to change sports to match the persepectives of those playing them
what are equal opportunities
the right to access the same opportunities, regardless of factors such as race, age, sex, mental or physical capabilities
prejudice
form an unfavourable oopinion of an individual, often based on inadequate facts
discrimination
unfair treatment of a person, or minority group; to make a distinction and act on a prejudice
overt- visible, obvious
covert- hidden, less obvious
