Skill Development & Analysis Flashcards
L10.2
What are the three different Phases of Movement?
1) Preparation
2) Execution
3) Follow Through
What happens in the Prep. Phase?
It’s where the body prepares to perform a skill (like kicking a ball). Proper preparation ensures the action is done as intended.
What happens in the Execution Phase?
Execution Phase generates momentum and requires the proper technique to execute the skill.
It’s carried out by applying the correct amount of force at the correct moment.
What is the follow through phase?
The Follow Through Phase is key to accuracy and force production.
This is important in basketball after shooting because if the shooter pulls back soon after shooting, it can remove a lot of the force that was propelling the ball and it may even cause the ball to go off course.
What are the two categories of Feedback?
KP: Knowledge Of Performance Feedback - Observation and comments of the person’s performance.
KR: Knowledge of Results Feedback - observing and commenting on the outcomes of an action/series of actions.
What occurs in the KP phase?
The instructor observes the Athlete perform a routine or skill and suggests how to correct balance or how to perform maneuvers more explosively/accurately.
Like a tennis coach observing the stroke of a swing.
What occurs in the KR phase?
The instructor analyzes an action or sequence that did/did not succeed, and giving feedback based on the outcome of the action/series of actions.
For example, a football coach can show a team a video of an offensive sequence that did not succeed during a game
What’s the goal of receiving feedback?
The goal is to accept the feedback and put it to use in order to improve from prior mistakes and improve success.
