Functional Fitness and Training Methods Flashcards
L15.2
What are the main training methods used today?
Periodization
Flexibility Training
Core Training
Cardiorespiratory Training
Resistance Training
Circuit/stage training
plyometrics training
speed/agility/quickness training
Balance training
Periodization?
development of an overall training plan separated into distinct training periods.
Objective is to maximize performances at peak times and reduce injury risk and burnout.
flexibility training?
training that increases range of motion of joints in order to enhance performance and reduce risk of injury.
core training?
involves the core muscles.
pretty self explanatory innit.
cardiorespiratory training?
it is composed of three phases.
base training
interval training
sport specific training
(meant for endurance).
resistance training?
meant to add resistance for when training muscles to become stronger.
the variables include:
the order in which exercises are to be done.
number of reps
number of sets
amount of rest
the intensity
the volume of each workout
What is circuit training?
consists of group of 4-10 exercises that are performed for a specific number of reps or for a given time period.
What is stage training?
similar to circle training but you finish all sets before moving to the next station.
what is plyometrics training?
involves sets of explosive drills usually using the body’s own weight.
its a form of resistance training that claims to give added strength and power.
what is speed/agility training?
develops strength and power and motor learning.
what is balance training?
ability to maintain equilibrium while standing still.
what is yoga/pilates?
used to develop core strength and flexibility.
yoga is a form of resistance training
Pilates involves moving fluidly from one body position to the next.
