What does LTAD stand for?
LTAD stands for Long-Term Athletic Development.
What are the 7 areas of LTAD?
1) Active Start
2) FUNdamentals
3) LTT (Learning to train)
4) TTT (Training to train)
5) TTC (Training to compete)
6) TTW (Training to win)
7) AFL (Active for life)
What is Active Start?
Active start is the stage that’s meant to start young ones on the right track to fitness.
Making it fun for daily life.
What are FUNdamentals?
FUNdamentals, is a stage that focuses on the fundamental movement and motor skills that are the building blocks to success in physical sports.
It also takes a ‘Fun’ approach to the fitness aspect.
Probably a time when kids are introduced to minor sports leagues.
What is LTT?
Learning to train, is a stage where children refine and learn general sport skills (not specified to one specific sport).
What’s TTT?
Training to Train is where athletes begin to specialize in the sport of their choosing. It’s where the growth spurt starts (so adolescent age region).
What’s TTC?
Training to compete, is when athletes are
young adults. By this stage, they are specializing
in one sport and working on event- or position specific skills and physical demands.
What’s TTW?
Training to Win, is about training to win at the highest level of a sport (like the Olympics). Only the best and most dedicated reach this stage.
What’s AFL?
Active for Life, is all about maintaining physical activity throughout life, without worrying too much about the competitive aspect of it.
This transition can occur at any age, but typically happens the LTT stage
