What is a closed skill?
Performed in an environment where there a few variables if any. eg darts
What is an open skill?
A skill performed in an unpredictable environment where decision may have to be made. eg team sports
What is a continuous skill?
Have no distinct beginning or end, movements may continue for several minutes.eg swimming, biking, running
What is a serial skill?
A skill that consists of subroutines. A group of skills strung together to make up a new more complicated skill eg triple jump
What is a discrete skill?
Skills that have a defined beginning and end and are short in duration, eg shot put
What is a gross motor skill?
A skill that involves the large muscles of the body such as the legs and shoulders
What is a fine motor skill?
A skill that involves the smaller muscles of the body such as those in the fingers
What is a skill?
- aesthetically pleasing
- fluent
- efficient
- economical
- accurate
- controlled
- consistent
what is a self paced skill
- the performer controls the speed at which the skill is performed
- e.g when a penalty is taken in football
what is an externally paced skill?
- performer has no control over when to start the skill or how fast it might be performed
- e.g sprinting when the gun is fired
what is a simple skill
- requires few decisions when being performed
what is a complex skill
- uses rotes of information so requires a lot of decision making
what is a highly organised skill
- a skill that is not easily broken down. e.g a volley in football
a low organised skill can be broken down. e.g swimming stoke
