the drive and energy and individual is prepared to expend to achieve a goal
What is intrinsic motivation?
the internal drive to do something for ones own sake

the external drive to perform/learn to receive a tangible reward

participating in swimming to earn badges/medals
What is self-determination theory?
describes different types of motivation based on the degree they’ve been internalised and considers what motivates a person at any one time

What is internalisation?
the active attempt to transform an extrinsic motive into personally endorsed values

degree of emotional behaviour felt by a person (arousal)
