What are task-orientated goals?
are concerned with improvements in technique or performance i.e. to improve turning technique in swimming
2 types of task orientated goals =
process and performance goals
What are outcome goals?
are long term goals set against the performance of others and are based on a result
What are process goals?
short term goals set to improve technique
What are performance goals?
intermediate goals set against yourself to improve performance from last time
Outcome goal example?
finishing in the top 3 in a race or winning a match
Process goal example?
a sprinter improving efficiency of their arm action
Performance goal example?
achieving your personal best time in sprinting
What is the purpose of goals?
- Increase persistance
- Increase motivation
- Control arousal / anxiety level (but can affect negatively aswell)
- Gives you feedback
- Increases effort
How long should short term goals be and how are the effective?
Days - week
- High chance of success so can control anxiety or get you back on form
How long should long term goals be and how are the effective?
weeks - years
- Can increase motivation but if they are too long it can decrease
