Articulate with thorasic vertebrate and attach to the sternum through costal cartilage

What is a false rib?
A rib that attaches to the thoracic vertebrae but does not directly attach to the sternum
Vertebrochondral ribs
8th, 9th, 10th rib
Joined by common cartilage to the costal cartilage of the 7th rib
Floating ribs
11th and 12th rib
Do not attach to the sternum at all
Separated rib
the dislocation between the rib and its cartilage; allows rib to move and override adjacent ribs
