Pelvic Girdle Flashcards
What bones form the pelvic girdle
Hipbones and sacrum
Obturator foramen
hole in the hip bone at the inferior part of it
Acetabulum
fossa on the lateral surface of the hipbone, where lower limb articulates with a girdle
Purpose of the pelvic girdle
1) place of attachment for lower limbs
2) supports the weight of the body
3) protects internal organs
Which three bones form fuse to form the hipbone
Ilium
Ischium and Pubis
Differences between the male and female pelvis
Male pelvis is more massic > bears more weight
The female pelvis is broader and has a larger pelvic inlet and outlet
Attachment sites for muscles from femur
Greater trochanter
Lesser trochanter,
Adductor tubercle
Sites of ligament attachment in the femur
Medial and lateral epicondyles
Patella
kneecap;
Sesamoid bone
Bones of the lower limb
tibia - Shin bone
fibula
Tibia
larger of the two; supports most of the weight of the leg
What does the fibula articulate with?
The tibiai and ankle
How many bones are in teh tarsal bones?
Seven
3 tallus bones proximal to foot, but not in a row
No Thanks Cow
Navicular
Tarsus
Calcaneus
Talus
Ankle bone, articulars with tibia and fibula, calcaneus and navicular
