Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
An enlargement of the prostate gland
Common over 60. US
Prostate cancer
2nd most common malignancy in men, more in black males, and over 50 yrs
Incidence increases by 40% with advancing age
May be slow-growing and asymptomatic for long periods or can be aggressive
Spreads by blood Hematogenius
Cryptorchidism
Condition of undescended testis
More common in premature males
Can cause infertility
US
Testicular torsion
Twisting of the gonad on the pedicle.
Cuts off circulation and causes severe scrotal pain
Doppler US and NM
Torsion means
Blood flow is decreased in and out of the testicle.
Immediate surgery, or will lose the testicle
Epididitamitis means
An increased amount of blood flow to the testis. Treated with antibiotics
Epididymitis
Inflammation of the epididymis
Testicular tumors
Most common neoplasm in men between 20-35
Almost all are malignant and metastasize to the lymphatics
Two major testicular tumors are
Seminomas
Nonseminomas
US with 98 to 100% accuracy
Seminomas are
45% of germ cell tumors. Arise from seminiferous vesicles
Nonseminomas are
Teratomas and other germ cell tumors. Arise from primitive germ cells, consist of teeth, hair, bone
