Prenatal Brain Development - Outline Flashcards
What is morphogenesis?
From a single cell to a complex brain
What is genetic guidance?
Genetically determined sequence of events that can be modulated by environments
What is plasticity?
The brain is adaptive and evolves after birth
What are the 3 stages of prenatal development?
Germinal - 0-2 weeks
Embryonic - 3-8 weeks
Fetal - 9 weeks-birth
What is the laminar organisation of the brain?
Neurons are organised across different layers. Each layer has a different role in the brain network. All areas communicate due to different connections.
The early brain as a tube rapidly evolves and differentiates by?
A series of thickenings and constrictions.
Before birth, what occurs in the brain?
It undergoes a series of massive cellular change and a series of genetically programmed events create a brain.
