Photosynthesis and plant pigments and chlorophyll Flashcards
What part of plant cell does photosynthesis take place?
chloroplasts.
Whats the equation for photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen,
Co_2 +H_2O ——-> C_6H_12O_6 + O_2
_ represent small numbers at bottom.
What do plants use glucose for?
Respiration - turns glucose into other useful substances
Making cell walls - changed to cellulose
Making amino acids
Stores as oils or fats for storing in seeds.
Stored as starch for when photosynthesis isn’t happening.
What is the rate of photosynthesis affected by?
light temperature and co2
Chlorophyll can also be a limiting factor as less due to disease or lack of nutrients can make it so plant can’t absorb as much light.
How does the oxygen production showing the rate of photosynthesis in a plant practical work?
ruler used to measure a set distance from pond weed.
Light placed at the distance,
Pondweed is left to photosynthesise for a set amount of time, and oxygen bubbles will collect in capillary tube.
At end of experiment, the syringe is used to free gas bubble in the tube up alongside a ruler.
Length of gas bubble is measured.
Length of gas bubble tells you how much oxygen has been produced during that amount of time.
