Carbon Cycle and Water Cycle - Earths Atmosphere Flashcards

1
Q

Explain how decay recycles materials.

A

Living things are made of materials they take from world around them .
(e.g plants and minerals from soil)
Materials are returned to environment in waste product or decayed organisms.
Materials decay because they’re broken down by microorganisms.
Decay puts mineral ions back into soil,

Q

Explain how everything in life recycles carbon back into atmosphere,

A
  1. CO2 took in from air during photosynthesis is returned as carbohydrates.
  2. Eating passes carbon compounds in plants to animals down food chain.
  3. Respiring releases CO2.
  4. Decay turns organism into useful product.
  5. Burning plants and animal products releases CO2

Q

What does energy from the sun make water do in the water cycle?

Explain water cycle.

A

Water evaporate from the land and sea, turning water into water vapour.

Water also evaporated from plants (transpiration)
Warm water vapor is carried upwards, then condenses and forms clouds.
Water falls from cloud as precipitation which provides fresh water for plants and animals.
