How does the boiling or melting point of a substance tell you how pure it is?

A

A chemically pure substance will melt or boil at a specific temperature
You can test purity by measuring mp or bp. You can then compare this value it’s the melting or boiling point of the pure substance, you can find this in a data book.
Impurities will lower melting point, or cause it to melt across a wider range of temperatures.
Impurities will increase boiling point, or boil across a range of temperature.

What is a formulation?

A

Useful mixture designed for a particular use - mixture with exact amounts of its parts,
Each part of a formulation is measured carefully to ensure there is the right amount, this makes sure the formulation has the right properties for it to work as supposed to.
In everyday life, formulations can be found in cleaning products, fuels, medicines, cosmetics, fertilizers, metal alloys and even food or drink.
