Observing Waves - Waves Flashcards
1
Q
The water ripple test using a ripple tank practical.
A
-Attach a signal generator to ripple tank dipper.
-Turn on signal generator to create waves.
-Find frequency of the waves by counting them he number of ripples that pass a point in ten seconds and divide by ten.
-Use a lamp to create shadows of the ripples on a screen below tank, place a meter ruler beside the shadows.
-The distance between each shadow line is equal to one wavelength.
2
Q
Waves on Strings practical
A
- Vibration generator vibrates at a fixed frequency set by signal generator.
-Turn on signal generator and string will start to vibrate.
-Adjust frequency of signal generator until there is a clear wave in the string.
-To get value of one wavelength, count how many wavelength are on string (each vibrating loop is a half)
-Measure whole vibrating string
-Divide by number of wavelengths to give length of one wavelength.
