Defence Against Pathogen An Human Immune System - Preventing, Treating And Curing Disease Flashcards
What are involved in human defence system against disease?
Skin - stops pathogens getting inside, and releases substances that kill pathogens
Nose hairs - trap particles that contain pathogens
Mucus - trachea and bronchi release to trap pathogens
Cilia- trachea and bronchi lined with this, move mucus to back of throat where it can be swallowed.
Stomach acid- hydrochloric acid that kills pathogens
How can your immune system attack pathogens?
White blood cells kill pathogens
- phagocytosis; engulf and digest pathogens
- producing antibodies which ensures pathogens can be found and killed by other white blood cells
If same pathogen comes back, people develop immunity.
-Produce antitoxins to stop bacteria toxins working.
