Levels of organisation - ecosystem and biodiversity Flashcards
what are cells?
basic building blocks that make up all living organisms.
What are specialized cells?
Carry out a particular function.
They form tissues, which form organs and organ systems:
a group of similar cells make up what?
Tissues.
E.g epithelial tissue is a tissue made up of epithelial cells.
what is an organ made up of?
Group of different tissues that work together to perform a certain function,
A group of organs make what?
Organ System, e.g digestive system.
What does
Habitat
Population
Community
and Ecosystem mean?
Habitat - place where an organism lives
Population - all the organisms of one species in a habitat.
Community - all the populations of different species in a habitat:
Ecosystem - interaction of a community of organisms with the non living parts of their environment.
What do animals and plants need to survive?
Animals - food, territory and meted.
Plants- need light, water, space and mineral ions.
How are species interdependent?
Ditfrrrht species depend on eachother for things like food, shelter, pollination and seed dispersal.
This means one part being changed in an ecosystem can affect the whole community.
