Which drug exacerbates gout?
Bendroflumethiazides or Chemo drugs
Acute gout treatment?
Colchicine 500mg 2-4 times a day
Max 3 days
Not to repeat course within 3 days
NSAIDS interaction with diuretics?
NSAIDS induces fluid retention
Treatment for chronic Gout? 1st line and 2nd line?
1st line: Allopurinol
2nd line: Febuxostat
MHRA warning with febuxostat?
CVD patients contraindicated as increase risk of mortality with history of CVD issues
Common Allopurinol side effect?
Rash - stop and if mild restart carefully
If it recur discontinue immediately
Allopurinol interacts with?
Azathioprine & Mercatopurine
Reduce dose
Nocturnal leg cramps treatment?
Quinine sulfate
Why is quinine not routinely recommended then?
Potential toxicity risk
Trial period for quinine?
4 weeks
Stop and assess every 3 months
