Amiodarone side effects?

A

-Corneal Microdeposits
(stop if vision impaired)

-Thyroid Disorders
(due to iodine content)

-Photosensitivity Reactions
(Avoid sunlight for months after)

-Hepatotoxicity (Dark urine,jaundice)

-Pulmonary Toxic (SOB, Cough)

-Driving due to microdeposits (Dazzling)

Monitoring for Amiodarone?

A

Thyroid & Liver function test
(Before then every 6 months)

Chest x ray (Before treatment)

Serum potassium (Before treatment)

Annual eye test

Amiodarone interactions?

A
  • With Grapefruit Juice
    (increase plasma conc)
  • Warfarin, Digoxin, Phenytoin
  • Statins (increase myopathy)
  • Quinolones, Macrolides, TCAs, SSRIs, lithium, chloromefloquine, sulpride
    QT PROLONGATION

Symptoms:
-bradycardia
-SOB
-Light headed
-palpitation
