Initial loading dose for Amiodarone?
A
200mg TDS for 1 week
200mg BD for 1 week
200mg OD Maintenance

Amiodarone side effects?
A
-Corneal Microdeposits
(stop if vision impaired)
-Thyroid Disorders
(due to iodine content)
-Photosensitivity Reactions
(Avoid sunlight for months after)
-Hepatotoxicity (Dark urine,jaundice)
-Pulmonary Toxic (SOB, Cough)
-Driving due to microdeposits (Dazzling)

Monitoring for Amiodarone?
A
Thyroid & Liver function test
(Before then every 6 months)
Chest x ray (Before treatment)
Serum potassium (Before treatment)
Annual eye test

Amiodarone interactions?
A
- With Grapefruit Juice
(increase plasma conc) - Warfarin, Digoxin, Phenytoin
- Statins (increase myopathy)
- Quinolones, Macrolides, TCAs, SSRIs, lithium, chloromefloquine, sulpride

Risks of severe heart block
Symptoms:
-bradycardia
-SOB
-Light headed
-palpitation
-Fainting, chest pain
