Local anesthetics Flashcards
Local anesthetic
blocks all local sensation
local anesthetic admin
-topically for superficial pain
-Peripheral nerve block
inject hear nerve trunk can be spine
-Bierblock, isolate limb blood flow and inject distal
local anesthetic structure
contain aromatic residue, ester and basic amine except benzocaine
Local anaesthetic action
Binds to Inactivated Na+ channels. Becomes uncharged to enter membrane then enters from inside of cell or diffuse right into channel
local anaesthetic advantages
pain nerves are thin and fire quickly meaning they are inactivated and can be bound
local anaesthetic disadvantages
Tissue damages lowers pH reducing chance of being uncharged
local anaesthetic side effects
Na+ inhibition in heart
Vasodilator->hypotension
sleepiness, convulsions, and CNS depression at high dose
