Guts GUTS GUTSSSSS Flashcards
What quadrant is the liver in?
RUQ
What is the ligament that seperates the right and left lobes of the liver?
The falciform ligament
What does the free edge of the falciform ligament turn into
The round ligament of the liver
What was the round ligament of the liver in fetal life?
The umbilical vein
Where does the gallbladder sit and where does it go?
Sits in the gallbladder fossa and the BILE DUCT travels to the duodenum
What are the 2 curvatures of the stomach and what is there relationship to other structures and organs?
- The lesser curvature is more superior and it is near the esophagus
- The greater curvature is more inferior and its on the opposite side of the lesser curvature
What are the 4 regions of the stomach? in order from top (near the esophagus) to the bottom (near the duodenum)
- Cardia (esophagus empties right into here)
- Fundus (top of the stomach)
- Body (between the lesser and greater curvatures)
- Pylorus (empties out into the duodenum)
What are the 3 sections of the pylorus?
- Antrum (the curvature of the stomach begins to go up)
- Canal
- Sphincter
What is the angle between the cardia and the fundus called?
The cardial notch
What wraps the esophagus near the cardia of the stomach?
The right crus of the diaphragm
T/F- The duodenum has a part that is secondary retroperitoneal?
True
What is the order of the portions of the small intestine?
The duodenum, jejunum, and the ilium
What holds the duodenal jejunal flexure in place?
The suspensory muscle from the diaphragm
The ilium ends by emptying into the…
Cecum (first part of the LI)
What are the little pieces of fat coming off of the LI?
Epiploic appendages
Where is the appendix loactaed in relation to the cecum?
Retrocecally
Ascending colon –> transverse colon via the
Right colic flexure (hepatic flexure)
Transverse colon –> descending colon via the
Left colic flexure (splenic flexure)
What is the last part of the LI before becoming the rectum?
Sigmoid colon
Where does the abdominal aorta start and end?
Start- Diaphragm at the left crus (where the thoracic aorta becomes the abdominal aorta)
End- by becoming the 2 common iliac arteries
What are the 3 main branches that come off of the abdominal aorta? From superior to inferior
- Celiac truck
- Superior mesenteric
- Inferior mesenteric
What part of the gut does the celiac truck supply?
The foregut
Branch off of the celiac truck that goes to the liver, it splits so there are 2, what are the names?
R and L hepatic artery
This is the direct branch off of the celiac trunk
Common hepatic artery
Branch off of the Common Hepatic Artery that goes to the lesser curvature of the stomach
Right Gastric Artery
This is a branch off of the common hepatic artery, then turns into the gastroduodenal artery and then that follows the greater curvature of the stomach to become…
Right Gastroepiploic Artery
This is a branch off of the gastroduodenal artery and it serves the pancreas and the duodenum
Anterior and posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries
What is the last branch that comes off of the gastroduodenal artery
Duodenal branches
SOOOO what are the 4 branches off of the hepatic artery?
- Right gastric artery
- Right Gastroepiploic artery
- Ant and Post superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries
- Duodenal branches
What is the segment of the hepatic artery between the gastroduodenal branch and the liver?
The Proper hepatic artery (only serves the liver at this point)
What is the branch that comes off of the celiac truck that goes to the spleen?
The splenic artery (have many branches as they enter the hilum of the spleen)
This is a branch off of the splenic artery that follows the greater curvature of the stomach
Left gastroepiploic artery
These are branches coming off of the splenic artery that go to the pancreas (specifically the body and the tail of the pancreas)
Pancreatic branches
This is the last branch off of the celiac trunk and it goes to the lesser curvature of the stomach on the left side of the body
Left gastric artery
RECAP! What are the 3 branches off of the celiac truck?
- Hepatic artery
- Splenic artery
- Left gastric artery
What is the second artery coming off of the anterior surface of the abdominal aorta called?
Superior mesenteric artery (serves the midgut)
What is the most proximal branch off of the superior mesenteric artery?
Inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery
The branch of the superior mesenteric artery that goes to the ileum and the cecum
Iliocolic branch (there is a superior and inferior reflexion)
What artery supplies the addendix?
Appendiceal artery
Where does the right colic branch go?
To the ascending colon
What artery serves the transverse colon?
The middle colic artery
What is the general pattern of arteries in the abdomen?
Arteries travel toward the wall of the gut and then split
On the left side of the superior mesenteric, there are many branches that go ____ and ______
That go to the ILIUM and the JEJUNUM
T/F- The arteries of the abdomen have lots of penetrating branches that reach the intestine?
True
This is the anatomotic loop of arteries for the large intestine that are supplied by branches of the superior mesenteric artery
Marginal artery of Drummond
This artery serves the hindgut
The inferior mesenteric artery
This branch of the inferior mesenteric artery travels superiorly to the splenic flexure and the descending colon
The left colic artery
These branches of the inferior mesenteric artery serve the sigmoid colon
The Sigmoid branches
This is the last branch of the inferior mesenteric artery that does not have an anastomotic connection
The superior rectal artery
