Gastrulation & Neurulation Flashcards
What is Gastrulation?
Initiated by organiser, which is in future, dorsal or posterior region
What happens during Gastrulation?
Formation of Primitive streak and node in the epiblast, posterior extension of streak
What happens with the Node formed in the epiblast?
Migration of epiblast cells through here to form endoderm, anterior notochord and prechordal mesoderm
What happens with the Primitive streak formed?
Migration of epiblast cells through here to form ventral and lateral mesoderm
What happens with the streak?
Regression and replaced by notochord
What is Neurulation?
Formation of neural tube which forms brain and spinal code
What happens to the Organisers in the mesoderm?
Forms neural plate in ectoderm which changes in cell shape and surface properties, the neural plate then folds in the hinge regions, the edges of folds fuse, the tube seperate and sinks away from ectoderm
What happens if the edges of the folds of the neural plate dont fuse?
Spina bifida, anencephaly
What do clusters of future neural cells do?
Form in crests of dorsolaterally to tube to create future nerves and pigment cells
