Gametogenesis Flashcards
When does spermatogenesis start?
At puberty
Where does spermetogenesis pass?
At the seminiferous tubes of the testis.
From what week the embryo is called a fetus?
From week 9th.
Do primordial germ cells form in the gonads?
No, they migrate there after the 2nd month of gestation.
From what percentage of abnormal spermatoza can cause fertility problems?
Percentages over 20%.
Normally 10% are abnormal.
Until when does sparmotogenesis occur?
Until death
Begins at puberty.
Where do sperm mature and acquire motility?
At the epididymis.
What are the two functions of sertoli cells?
Formation of the blood-testis barrier (isolate meiotic and post-meiotic germ cells from immune and lymphatic systems) and favour spermatogenesis (FSH).
What cells produce testosterone?
Leydig or Intersticial Cells
When does oogenesis begins?
In the fetal period.
Of what is the primordial follicle made?
Made with the nucleus of the Primary Oocyte and Flat Follicular Cells.
When is Oogenesis resumed?
What type of process it is?
Oogenesis is resumed at puberty.
It is a cyclic process (every 28 days).
How many mature gametes are obtained from each 1ary Oocyte?
Only ONE mature gamete.
The rest are polar bodies.
When does the follicular phase begins?
At puberty.
What to layers are involved in the production of estrogens by the mature Oocyte?
The Theca-interna produces the precursors of estrogens and are transported to the granulosa cells which transform them into estrogens.
Induced by FSH
