List some important facts regarding Fetal Alcohol syndrome
A
Most common preventable cause of mental retardation, fetal birth defects,
Greatest risk is in 1st trimester
No established safe level of use in pregnancy
All patients should be advised not to drink alcohol.
○ Symptoms:
Smooth philtrum (the area between nose and upper lip)
Thin upper lip
Small palpebral fissures (the horizontal eye openings)
Growth deficit (small babies!!)
