Q

Posteromarginal nucleus

A
  • –Most dorsal aspect of the dorsal horn
  • –Receives 1° or 2° sensory input from posterolateral tract (fasciculus of Lissauer)
  • –Relay information related to pain and temperature sensation

Q

•Substantia gelatinosa

A
  • –Crescent shaped at tip of dorsal horn
  • –Large density of mu & k(kappa) -opioid receptors are found on these neurons related to C-fibers
  • –C-fibers (nociceptive) end in this nucleus
  • –Relay pain sensation as tract neurons for anterolateral system

Q

•Nucleus proprius

A
  • –Adjacent to the substantia gelatinosa
  • –Receives non-noxious inputs from the periphery
  • –Axons from cells in the nucleus porprius project to
    • §Deeper neurons in the spinal cord
    • §Assessory dorsal column nuclei
    • other supraspinal relay centers including
      • the midbrain,
      • thalamus, and
      • hypothalamus

Axons from cells in the Nucleus proprius Project to Deeper neurons in the spinal cord and to the Assessory dorsal column nuclei. Axons from cells in the Nucleus proprius Projects to other supraspinal relay centers including the midbrain, thalamus, and hypothalamus

Q

Nucleus dorsalis

A
  • Also called clarke’s nucleus
  • –Thoracic & Lumbar levels (T1 to L3-L4 levels)
  • –Axons ascend as dorsal spinocerebellar tract
  • Cells from this same region in the c-spine cord ascend as the rostral spinocerebellar tract (but it is not called nucleus dorsalis or clarke’s nucleus)

The Nucleus dorsalis (Clarke’s nucleus) is seen in the Thoracic & Lumbar levels (T1 to L3-L4 levels) has Axons that ascend as dorsal spinocerebellar tract. Cells from this same region in the cervical spinal cord ascend as the rostral spinocerebellar tract

Q

Intermediate cell column (interomediolateral cell column/nucleus)

A

Intermomediolateral nucleus, intermediate cell column & intermadeolateral cell column seem to be the same thing

  • –Lateral aspect in T1-L2 forms interomediolateral cell column
  • –Seen as the lateral horn of the gray matter
  • –This intermediolateral cell column contains the autonomic motor neurons that give rise to the pre-ganglionic fibers of the sympathetic system

The Intermediate cell column has a Lateral projection in T1-L2 forms interomediolateral cell column

Seen as the lateral horn of the gray matter

Intermediolateral cell column of the thoracolumbar spinal cord Contains the autonomic motor neurons that give rise to the pre-ganglionic fibers of the sympathetic system

Q

Ventral Motor Nuclei

A

Ventral Motor nuclei of the ventral horn of the spinal cord contain two major nuclear areas,

Lateral motor nuclei

  • –Lateral motor nuclei of the ventral horn innervate distal muscles of the limbs
  • –LMN seen in enlargements of spinal gray

Medial motor nuclei

  • –Medial motor nuclei of the ventral horn innervate proximal muscles of the limbs and trunk muscles.
  • –Medial motor nuclei really only part of ventral horn in thoracic spinal cord

Ventral Motor nuclei of the ventral horn of the spinal cord contain two major nuclear areas, First is the Lateral motor nuclei of the ventral horn innervate distal muscles of the limbs and is very prominent in the cervical & lumbosacral enlargements pf the spinal gray matter. Medial motor nuclei of the Ventral Motor nuclei of the ventral horn innervate proximal muscles of the limbs and trunk muscles. Medial motor nuclei really only part of ventral horn in thoracic spinal cord
