Cardiovascular and Respiratory Goal Flashcards
How many pairs of ribs do dogs and cats have?
13 & 16
Where and how does the forelimb or thoracic limb connect to the trunk?
The thoracic limb connects to the thorax by the thoracic sing muscles. The elbow is approximately level with the 5th rib and marks the position of the heart.
What body cavity is found caudal to the diaphragm?
Abdominal
Auscultation
A method used to listen to sound Of the body during a physical examination
triangle of auscultation
defines the area in which the lungs can be heard. It is limited by the forelimb cranially, the spine and epaxial musculature dorsally and a line connecting the two caudoventrally. This principle can be applied on both left and right hand sides and to other domestic veterinary species as well.
Venepuncture
Venepuncture is used when access to the venous blood is required. It may be used for blood sampling or intravenous therapy.
Describe the flow of blood in. Terms of types of vessels
Arteries > arterioles > capillaries > venules > Veins
Arteries
Arteries carry blood away from the heart to the tissues of the body.
Arteries generally carry oxygenated blood with the exception of the pulmonary artery and the umbilical arteries
Arteries have thick elastic muscular walls.
Veins
Veins carry blood from the tissues of the body back to the heart.
Veins carry deoxygenated blood except pulmonary vein.
Veins have thin non elastic less muscular walls.
