CARBON definitions Flashcards
Sequestrian
carbon sequestration I the transfer of carbon from the atmosphere to other stores and can be natural + artificial. For ex , a plant sequesters carbon when it photosynthesis and stores carbon in its mass
ocean sequestration
Oceans are the largest carbon stores, lots of processes occur within oceans to store large amounts of CO2. transfer of CO2 into the sea is called ocean sequestration
seasonally
Different seasons affect growth of vegetation. in winter in the northern hemisphere, only few plants grow and limited decaying. in spring this changes
Diurnally
Means Change through the day. During the day the fluxes are +ve, from the atmosphere to the ecosystem. At night the flux is -ve from ecosystem to atmosphere
Permafrost
Permanently frozen in Siberia, carbon can be stored and released
Peak oil
Global production of oil reaches its maximum point after which production gradually declines
