Immediate threat to life of woman or foetus
What is a grade 2 caesarean section?
Within 90 minutes
Maternal or fetal compromise
Not life threatening
What is a grade 3 caesarean section?
Scheduled
No time limit
Requiring early delivery but no compromise
What is a grade 4 caesarean section?
Elective
No time limit
At a time to suit woman and maternity team
What are maternal risks of a caesarean section?
Emergency hysterectomy Persistent wound and abdominal discomfort after surgery Thromboembolic disease Postpartum haemorrhage Infection-wound, endometritis
What risks could there be with future pregnancies if a woman has a caesarean section?
Increased risk of repeat caesarean
Increased risk of uterine rupture
