Act within the CNS to decrease sympathetic outflow decreasing stimulation of the adrenergic receptors
- in the myocardium it results in bradycardia and decreased CO
- in the peripheral vasculature causes vasodilation and lower BP

Drowsiness, sedation, dry mouth, rebound HTN

Nursing considerations
A
- drowsiness, sedation, and dry mouth tend to be self-limiting
- do not discontinue without contacting the provider, d/c over 2-4 days
