Bio Unit 3 punnet square rules Flashcards
Incomplete dominance
the colors mix from the parents. Like pink. Use the same letter but upper and lower case.
Codominace
Roan cattle, erminate, speckled. The two traits from the parents are clearly shown. 2 upper case letter.
Multiple alleles
basically blood type. A,B,o-ii, or AB
Polygenic traits
Many genes for a single trait. Liken skin and eye color.
Hetrozygotes also known as
hybrids
Homozygous always known as
pure-breed or true breeding
Abt mendel’s laws
they are applicable to all organisms but they are not applicable to all trait
Mendals laws
1) law of dominance : some traits are more dominant than others
2) law of segregation : alleles are separated in gamete formation in meiosis
3) law of independant assortment : pairs of alleles are sorted independendently in meiosis.
Non-disjunction
error during gamete formation, the homologous chromosomes do not separate
Down’s syndrome
extra 21st chromosome
Ressive Autosomal
Anything with both small letter will have the disease. Hetrozygotes will be carrier. Big normal.
Dominant autosomal
Anything with big letter has the disease. 2 little is normal
Sex linked Ressive
also known as xlinked
Hemophilia and color blindness. Anything with one little or 2 has it. Hetrogygote are carrier.
Sex linked dominant
anything with big letter has it. Both little or in men little means they are safe.
