bio unit 3 human gentics Flashcards
what is a karyotype
it shows the complete diploid set of chromosomes in pairs
genome
full set of genetic info an organism carries in DNA
what can an karyotype show
it can show extra, missing, enlarged or shortened chromosomes.

non-disjunction
an error duing gamete formation in meiosis. where the homologous chromosomes do not seprate
what does non-disjunction cause
extra chromosomes or less chormosomes. this means that every single body in the cell will have one less or more.
down syndorme
there is an extra chromosome in the 21st. a non- disjunction.
autosomal chromosomes
the 22 pairs of nn-sex related chromosomes.
sex chromosomes
the 2 chromosomes determine if boy or girl.
y chromoes
only the y chromosmes determines is male.
it controlled the y linked tiats.
x chromosomes
-larger
- can not have a baby with out it
- controlls the x linked traits.
what is bood
autosomed chromosomes
recessive autosomal disorder
- the disorder there in ressive homozygous
- carriers are hetrozygous
- and homozygous domnat is a normal cell.
dominant autosomal inheritance
- anything with capital has the disorder. so that meas that homogyous dominat and hetrozygous.
- ressive homozygous is normal.
sex linked disorders
linked to the x or y chromosome
x-linked ressive disorders
more common in males because they only have one x.
- no lettr with y
- Hh carrier
- h or hh has disorder
-HH H does not
common x-linked ressive disorders
colorblindness and hemophilia
