Anatomy Week 10 Flashcards
What are the different movements at the joint
Flexion:
Extension:
Abduction:
Adduction: .
Rotation:
Circumduction:
Supination/Pronation
radius/ulna.
Opposition
Name the tendons of Extrinsic muscles
Long flexor or extensor tendons
What is the function of the synovial tendon sheaths
Lubricate tendons at the wrists and fingers for smooth movement
Name all the bones of the upper limb
- Pectoral girdle(clavicle,scapula,humerus,radius,ulna,carple bone,metacarpals,phalanges
Desribe the clavicle
- S shaped, forming the anterior pectoral girdle
- Articulates with the manubirum medially and the scapulas acromion laterally
Desribe the scapula
+ key features
- Flat, triangular bone on the posterior thoracic wall ( 2-7)
- It has medial, lateral and superior borders
key features:
-spine
-suprasipnous fossae
-Infra spinous fossae
-subscapular fossae
-acromion
-Glenoid cavity wich articulates with the humerus
Describe the humerus
- Longbone of the arm
-The proximal head articulates with the scapula - The intertubercular groove seperates the greater and lesser tubercles
- The Anatomic Neck speperates the head from the greater and lesser tubercles
Explain the Ulna
+its features
- The medial bone of the forearm
-It articulates with the radius at the radial notch - Interosseus membranes joints the shafts of the radius and ulna
Feautres: - Trochlear Notch
-Styloid process - Olecranon
- Coronoid process
Describe the radius
- Lateral bone of the forearm
-Articulates with the humerus and ulna
interosseus membranes joins theT shaft of the radius and ulna
Explain the carpal bones
-consist of 8 bones arranged in 2 curved rows: proximal and distal
1.Proximal: scaphoid,triquetrum,pisiform
Distal:Trapezium,trapezoid,capitate,hamate
Explain the metacarpals
- Consist of 5 long bones
-Proximally their bases articulate with carpals
-Distally their ehads form knuckles
Describe the phalanges
small long bones that form the fingers
- Categorized as proximal, distal and middle
What is the function of the spaces between the muscles of the shoulder and scapula
They allow nerve and vessels to pass between the axilla, posterior scapula and the humeral regions
Name all the spaces in the muscles and shoulder
- The quadrangular space
-The scapular notch - The triangular space
- The triceps Hiatus
What is the function of the quadrangular space
It Transmits the posterior circumflex humeral artery and axillary nerve
