What is an ARU and what does it do?
1: Adaptive Response Unit
2: Reduce response times

How shall companies respond when a Water tender is called for?
1: Must take Tender and Engine

What if a water tender is called for but the crew is unavailable?
Alarm dispatches the next closes unit to pick up water tender (Tender will still maintain the call sign where it is housed)
What can be done for staffing tenders during heavy brush fire activity?
An Engineer can be assigned to constantly man

The crew were it is housed
What is a violent incident?
Members may be exposed to harm as result of violent act or threat
What is imminent peril?
Any situation where member is in fear of life or limb as a result of an act of another
What is the proper wording which allows us to enter a violent incident?
“Clear for fire to enter” This is the only designation (can come from alarm or directly from PD officer
What should happen when you find yourself in imminent peril?
1: Request PD code 3
2: Restrict other units from entering
3: Retreat
4: Call emergency traffic
What violent incidents do BCs respond?
1: Shooting
2: Stabbing
3: Any other event they deem necessary
What shall the BC do when arriving at a violent incident?
1: Monitor PD channel
2: Search for PD member in charge and unify command
What shall alarm do on a violent incident?
1: Get as much info from PD Alarm and possible
2: Relay to crews via radio or mct
How shall we stage?
1: Minimum of 2 blocks out of site
2: May be in quarters if within 2 blocks (monitor radio, notify alarm)
3: Turn emergency lights off (back on when proceeding to call
4: Two means of egress (not backing)
5: Be in ready state
6: Crowd may be a hazard you need to stage from
What code do we use to request PD immediately?
1: 906
2: Alarm wont ask questions
How do you respond if you push the emergency button on the mct?
1: Alarm will ask if code 4
2: If ok you must respond E203 Code 4 Vehicle Nu,ber 2517
3: Any other response they assume your in trouble
You may ask alarm for code 4 checks, how is this done?
1: Designate how many minutes
2: Give location and employee number
3: Alarm will start the timer
4: If OK you must respond E203 is code for ID number 20185

1: Antagonism toward us

How can we spot an apparatus on an incident with a high threat of violence?
1: Turn off siren several blocks away
2: Drive slowly past house
3: Spot spot 100 feet before or after so you can approach from a safe distance
4: If approaching a car park and rear and follow all other traffic precautions
How should we approach the building on a violent incident?
1: Do not slam door
2: Keep radio low
3: Gain info before entering
4: Look and listen
5: Listen for fighting and how many voices
How should we enter apartment buildings on violent incidents?
1: Keep elevator on manual and open
2: Check stairwell and make sure unlocked for second exit
How do we open doors on potentially violent incidents?
1: Stand on doorknob side of inner door to make person open wide to see you
2: Never stand directly in front of door
How should we enter on a violent incident?
1: Introduce yourself (people mistake us for PD)
2: Hold doorknob if dog present and ask it to be put away
3: If they say just come in ask them to open door
4: If they insist ask why can’t come to door
5: Consider risks of looking in window
6: Scan room and persons for weapons drugs alcohol etc
7: Keep crew in sight at all times, no on alone

How shall we act in cases of possible violent disputes?
1: Domestic violence often reported as accidents
2: Dont stand between disputants
3: Separate so they can hear or see each other
How shall we interview during violent incidents?
1: Suspect violence stand to side arms length away (so they have to turn to attack you)
2: Dont stand against wall
3: Dont fold arms
4: Don’t put hands in pockets
5: Use physical barriers (table etc)
6: Move people away from weapons or potential weapons
7: If see a weapon call PD
What are some “DO’s” of violent incidents?
1: Pay attention to dispatch info
2: One radio on PD channel

4: Display confidence and in control
5: Look for informal leader of a group and make personal contact to ease tensions
