Who is responsible for making sure that the reserve is always in a ready state?
The captain (BC keep white board of units up to date)
What should be done before you take a reserve apparatus?
Captain where it is housed notified and a complete apparatus check. If discrepancies notify housing captain
What should be done when returning a reserve?
Meet with housing captain to ensure ready state. Housing captain will have someone perform truck check.
What must happen before a reserve can be given to a different company?
It must always return to the housing station for check
What must happen for a reserve to be used for public events?
1: Go through BC
2: Kept in city limits
3: Must stay available to be put in use

When is a members callback hours charged?
When they get 4 or more hours. Any less and it doesn’t go against your bank
What must you need to leave before your relief shows up?

What are the sick hour overtime rules?
If you use greater than 4 hours sick you are not eligible for callback the next morning
When does OT accrual reset?
July 1
When is the latest you can sign up or take off callback list?
5am
OT should be staffed how?

When can you decline OT without penalty?

How are standby crews paid?
1: 2 1/2 hours straight time if not called out
2: If called out then time and a half for a min of 1 hour on regular work day
3: Time and a half 2 hour min if a day off
If you have a storm stand by crew who do you contact to let them know you are willing to work?

Send an email to BC with Incident number, unit, employee numbers

Must first cancel your request and put in a new one (you may lose you ability) No changes after 5am

Call staffing especially if after 5 am. If on light duty must call staffing and sup before start time

Calling in sick but no time charged vacation
Calling in vacation but no time you get docked (no sick time use)

How do you bid an open vacancy after it has closed with no bids?
Submit bid request, it remains open until 1700 that day and given to the most senior member
Where are un bid openings posted?

How are captains positions bid?
1: All captains can bid ALS or BLS
2: Its awarded to the most senior appropriate captain
3: If there are no appropriate captains it is given to the most senior un appropriate captain
4: In that even the least senior members position is flipped
What if you fear a position is going to open and you won’t be able to bid it?
You can put a bid “on file” before it opens (stays on file until jan 1)
When does a bid close?
10am on the coming date (you can withdraw until then)
Who cannot bid positions?
1: Probation
2: Precepting ALS members cannot bid ALS positions
3: Temp members can’t bid the temp rank spots
4: Less than 3 years remaining in drop can’t bid special teams unless already certified
5: Exceptions can be made by Ops AC for closed bids that are still vacant
Can admin block a bid?
Yes but must provide reason in writing and labor will be involved
How is scheduled leave handled if you bid a new shift?
You lose it
How long is a special teams bid for?
3 years
What if spots are needed for probationary FFs?
The most junior member in a permanent bid may be bumped to leave pool. If this is frequent more training spots may be designated
How will long term vacant spots be handled?
By rovers per seniority (if you have a spot you can’t take one of these)
How long can you be away from your spot?
12 consecutive months or any 12 in an 18 month period. Extensions can be made by wellness
How are BSO spots filled?
By seniority bid only with those on the BSO list or a current BSO
How do we staff new companies?
1: Captain spot first
2: Engineer next (if training spot and Captain is BLS engineer must be ALS)
3: FF positions last based off of crew make up (ALS BLS)
If your unit is taken out of service where do you go?
Leave pool and you can bid open spots
When are spots bid simultaneously?
When two spots (one ALS one BLS) overlap for a minimum of 1 day
How are simultaneous bids awarded?
Highest ranking position awarded first flipping other spot
How are bid position trades handled?
1: Submit request
2: labor involved to ensure bid prices not compromised
3: Notice sent out and any member with seniority may challenge within 7 days to BC
What is adjusted seniority?
years based off of 1st day of academy pus years in position. Date of ALS assignment if even. Lottery if identical
How is returning to special teams handled?
Up to 1 year: No commitment required
1-5 years away: Must complete packet and 1 year commit
More than 5 years away start over with 3 year commit
How are innovated assignments handled?
1: Recruitment at project managers discretion.
2: If becomes permanent regular bid process
What is a specialized assignment?
A team with full funding but not special team pay eligible
Recruitment is interview and must submit letter of interest and resume
What are the current specialized assignments?
1: BSO
2: Bike
3: Wildland
4: TEMS
What is a temp day assignment?
1: Usually less than 1 year
2: You keep your spot
