Week 5 - Worksheet 1 Flashcards
Urinary
Refers to the abrupt loss of kidney function. It may be caused from circulatory volume depletion, fluid volume shifts, or infectious disease, just to name a few causes
Acute Renal Failure
Inflammatory response when bacteria enter the renal pelvis. The inflammation leads to edema and swelling of the involved tissue
Pyelonephritis
Invasive procedure in which a guide is inserted via the percutaneous route near the area of the stone and an ultrasonic wave is aimed to break the stone into fragments
Percutaneous lithrotripsy
Uses peritoneum as the dialysis membrane and injects an isotonic into the peritoneum where it is left to equilibrate for 4-5 hours. It is then drained and replaced with fresh dialysis fluid
Peritoneal dialysis
A term that encompasses a variety of diseases, most of which are caused by immunological reaction, that leads to progressive inflammatory changes within the glomerulus.
Acute glomerulonephritis
Irreversible, progressive reduction of functional renal tissue such that the remaining kidney mass can no longer maintain homeostasis.
Chronic renal failure
Renal cell carcinoma, or adenocarcinoma, is the most frequent type of tumor; it accounts for 90% of all kidney neoplasms. Tumor growth begins in the renal cortex
Renal cancer
Kidney stones can form anywhere in the urinary tract, but usually, they form in the kidneys. These stones may travel down the urinary tract with or without resultant damage.
Renal Calculi
Traffic accidents and falls wherein the person lands on the abdomen, flank, or back are the most common causes of injury, usually resulting in blunt trauma. One can also suffer lacerations resulting from fractures of the spine and ribs, as well as from bullets and knives
Renal trauma
Non-invasive mechanical procedure for breaking up stones so they can pass spontaneously or be removed by other methods
Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy
When a stone is removed from the renal pelvis the procedure is called ______.
Pyelolithotomy
Herniation of bladder into vaginal canal; common when the muscles in the pelvic floor are torn during childbirth.
Cystocele
Looking at the bladder with a thin viewing tube
Cystoscopy
Produces a large amount of tasteless urine
Diabetes Insipidus
X-ray of urinary tract after injection of a contrast medium.
Intravenous pyelogram
