Marked by the characteristics of an earlier period, forming the earliest stage, prior to full development

Early pictographic language found on Crete, currently undeciphered.
Linear B
Hieroglyphic language representing earliest form of Greek, also known as Mycenaean, named after Mycenae where Agamemnon is said to have ruled. Deciphered in 1953.
