Viral Replication Flashcards
Once the virus is inside the host cell, what 2 different process may occur ?
Lytic or Lysogenic cycle
Replicates immediately, killing the host cell, fast cycle , immediate symptoms
Lytic cycle
A way that does not kill the host cell immediately, slow cycle
Can switch to lytic
Lysogenic
In a ___ infection, a virus enters a cell, makes copies of itself, and cause the cell to burst (lyse)
Lytic
What are the lytic cycle steps ?
1) attachment - virus recognizes and attaches to host cell
2) entry- viral DNA injected into cell
3) Replication- viral genes and capsids copies
4) Assembly -viral genes put together ono protein coat
5) Lysis (burst) and realize -cell burst and releases viral particles
Unlike lytic viruses,____ viruses do not lyse the host cell right away . Instead they remain inactive until the time comes
Lysogenic
Lyse means
Burst
Lysogenic cycle
1) attachment and entry
2) provirus formation - viral DNA embedded into host cell’s DNA
3) DNA Replication- viral DNA copied along with hose DNA
4) cell division- cell divides with viral DNA
5) lytic cycle -at any time the viral DNA leaves the host DNA and enters the lytic cycle
