The importance of plants
-Eukaryotic

Characteristics of plants
What are the 3 plant organs ?
Roots, stems, and leaves
What are the roots, stems , and leaves organized into?
Root Systems and Shoot Systems
Root systems are:
-anything below the surface;such as roots and root hairs
What are the function of roots ?
-anchors plant to the ground
-absorbs water and minerals from soil (assisted by root hairs increases surface area )
-transports nutrients to stem
What are the two kinds of roots ?
Tap and Fibrous
Tap roots are
Single primary root that grows deep into the soil
Fibrous roots are
Slender branched and grow directly from the stem; grow close to the surface and horizontally
Shoot systems
-anything above the surface, such as stem leaves and flowers
What is the function of stems
-provide structure support for upright growth
- some green stems may also carry out photosynthesis
- contains tissues for transporting food , water, and nutrients from one part of the plant to another
What tissue does water move from the roots to the leaves through xylem tissue and sugar/food produced ont the leaves move to the roots thought he phloem tossue
Vascular tissue
What vascular tissue carries water from the roots to the leaves
Xylem
What vascular tissue carries food/sugar usually from the leaves to the roots
Phloem
What are
- broad, flat organs that trap light energy
-cell contain 1000s of chloroplasts
Leaves
