Ecology Flashcards
Ecology is
The study of the interactions if organisms and their environment
- pertaining to life
- all the living organism that inhabit an environment
- animal, plants, fungi, bacteria (2) , protist
Biotic factors
- without life
- all the non-living parts of the environment
- e.g., soil, rocks, water, minerals, temperature
Abiotic factors
What are the levels of biological organization ?
Organism
Population
Community
Ecosystem
Biome
Biosphere
One individual
Organism
A group of organisms of 1 species that interbred and line in the same area
Population
A collection of pop that interact with one another
Community
Interactions if a community and it’s abiotic factors
Ecosystem
Large community of plants and animals that occupied and distinct region
Biome
The portion of the Earth that support life. May different environments exist here
Biosphere
A role a species plays in a community. Includes the space, food, and other conditions the organism needs to survive
Niche
The place where the organism live
Habitat
Organisms that he solar energy to make their own food (producers )
Autotroph
Organisms that depend on other organisms for food and energy (consumers )
Heterotroph
Eat only plantsb
Herbivores
Eat other heterotrophs
Carnivores
Eat organisms that are already dead
Scavengers
Absorb nutrients from dead organism . E.g., fungi, bacteria
Decomposers
Organisms of the same or different species attempt to use an abiotic or biotic resource I’m the same ecosystem
Competition
An interaction in which one organism captures and feeds on another organism
Predation
Cose and permanent relationships between organisms
Symbiosis
One species benefited and the other is not harmed or benefited (+/0)
Commensalism
Both species benefit (+/+)
Mutualism
One species benefits and the other is harmed (+/-)
Parasitism
